I had a friend who claimed he could speak russian for all the years i knew him. He finally made the claim in front of my mother who was a russian linguist for the air force and i crack up at everything that makes me think of that moment around my dinner table with 6 high schoolers watching him say nyet or whatever no is in russian over and over. He has not made that claim in the last 4 years.

Hearing the French language fills me with rage for some reason. I think it's because I know they don't pronounce their X's and that makes me mad.

Learning a language has to be accompanied with practice, view and read real news, programs and anything related to the language. Just because you aced the test and everything on paper doesn't mean you're a master in the language, it's like school not because you graduate from University means that you'll get your dream job and earn millions, you need to search for yourself and practice with natives be it online or if you can fly over there, also the way the languages are being teach are useless because no native speaker speaks perfectly like what you hear on lesson were it's like a clear slow speaking robot, real people inside the same state,country, language, have accents, different speed and intonation along with their own way of speaking, if you rely only on simple text and "audio lessons" you're wasting a lot of time, you need to look for practice with real people, read forums, see how's the actual language and learn the difference between what you're doing and what you really need to learn and improve, lessons are only for structure and grammar not for speaking unless you have a really good native teacher, non-native teacher can be good but the native teacher easily hear if you're doing accent, if it's understandable or not, and hear in detail what you're doing also they help you speak more fluently with your own voice unlike a lot of people that are just trying to imitate the lessons audio instead of using their own voice
